Thank You, Jeff Myers & Mishawaka Rail Yard !
Fellow customers should read this, because few hobby shops in the USA have the service capability, persistence, and customer interests at heart to resolve a problem like mine.
An electronics device was not working as it once worked. Jeff analyzed the failure mode and described the problem to the manufacturer, who replied: “Out of warranty, but we think we know what component on the board needs to be replaced, and we’ll send it to you if you think you can make the dozen soldering operations necessary to replace it.”
When Jeff got the component, he saw an irregularity on one of the attachment points on the board. He sent the board and the component to the manufacturer, and lent me electronics from his personal inventory, while the manufacturer decided what to do. The manufacturer fixed it at no charge. Jeff tested my electronics at home and found everything perfect.
It would have cost me $ 150 or more to replace this item, and the store chose to help me avoid that cost rather than to make a sale. On many occasions, I have been within earshot of customers in the store getting generous help from Jeff, Jim, Bill and Chuck (and Yes, I have gotten substantial generous help, too, from each of the owners on a number of occasions).
The regular customers of the store know that the operation of this hobby shop is a labor of love for the owners, who do not wear charity on their sleeve. And that is why I would be upset if they do not post my thank you on their website and in the store, because they deserve praise.
